It won't happen for another month and a half yet but.....

Something I've had in the back of my mind for two years now needs doing: A coffee moot. 

Yes, my tow has two others already and possibly more, but that's okay because I feel there should be more.  LOTS more, with many different focuses and people involved.  All in the name of options.  It SHOULDN'T be a popularity contest with being member of one group over another.  And I don't intend my to conflict with any of the existing ones because I want to get a strong cross-section of people and ideas. 

This is about community building and to that, I'll start small.  At the same time though I want to see community involvement in as many areas and events as possible.

Community is not what groups you're a member of.  It's what you do.

If you go to pagan pride day, mingle and talk to people (both those that you know and those that you don't) then that is community.

If you send people private emails and snark at them for not seeing things your way, that's not community.

If you put together a social event, be it a public ritual or or taking a friend to coffee, that is community.

If you go around badmouthing the efforts of a given persona or group, that's not community.

Community is about togetherness.  and yes there will be disagreements, but the strength of a community is the ability to work through things rather then closing their ears and allowing problems to fester.

So now I'm going to focus on building community one person and event at a time.  it can be done.  I've seen it done.  And because I've also seen how and why things fall apart, I'm hoping that I can avoid those pitfalls.
